Clan Hunter Genealogy Project
Welcome to Clan Hunter Genealogy Project, a unique record of our Hunter ancestors. It is completely FREE to take part, just follow these five steps.
Start by collecting together as much information as you have about your Hunter family members. It need not be complete. Clan Hunter collects genealogical information from all those with the surname Hunter and descendants of a Hunter surnamed person. Clan Hunter does not have septs (a subdivision of a Clan). Surnames such as Hunt, Huntsman, Huntingdon etc. are of English origin and not connected to our Scottish family.
Enter your information by clicking the button below. Records submitted by Clan members are entered into a central database under the control of the Clan Chief. No internet online access is permitted to this database.
5 Take your research further
Please note that we do not offer a genealogy research facility. We recommend the use of www.familysearch.org research software and exporting through GEDCOM files that will interact with our database platform. Members who have already submitted material to Hunterston will have been added to our database and are welcome to confirm and update their entries.
A professional genealogical team of Clan members work directly under the authority of the Clan Chief to authenticate accuracy against our extensive existing records. Where discrepancies are observed, members will be communicated with accordingly.
Members may access their respective family records by getting in contact with the Clan Chief to check accuracy and update information. Photographs, family histories, copies of certificates (birth, marriage) and other relevant historical information may also be submitted for inclusion on the Clan database which is maintained to a high security level and with restricted access. If you permit your own genealogical data to be shared with other Clan members through our genealogy team then please mark the appropriate box below, otherwise all material submitted will be secured confidentially. Data access is closely restricted and only accessible through our Clan Chief and with your personal permission.
